This October 2-5, 2016, join the Leica Akademie and photographer Anna Mia Davidson as we explore visual storytelling off the coast of Seattle on Whidby Island, WA.
Designed for the photographer with an interest in environmental portraiture, food, landscape and travel photography, this intimate program provides the perfect setting to push yourself creatively in a location that inspires you to discover your point of view as a photographer.
Workshop participants will experience all that Whidbey Island has to offer. From stunning sunsets and quaint towns, access to organic farms, wineries, cheese makers and fisherman that make this both a photography and food lovers destination.
Great accommodations and a unforgettable location will provide an opportunity to leave everyday life behind and fully immerse in the learning process. The renowned Saratoga Inn will be our home base for three days, as we explore visually all that makes this a unique island retreat.
The schedule will combine formal lectures, group excursions, as well as time to photograph on your own.
This workshop is ideal for photographers with an interest in documenting a place and it’s people. Whether you want to tell a story in one frame, become more confident photographing people on location, create a travel story or discover the process of building a long term documentary project, this 3-day workshop can give you the building blocks and feedback you need to develop as a photographer.
Topics Covered include:
Composition, light and capturing moments
Developing personal projects
Picture Story vs. Photo Essays
Gaining Access / Model releases
Strategies for editing and processing
One on one and group critique
Who should attend this workshop?
Photographers of all skill levels are welcome to attend this workshop. Attendees should be familiar with the basic functions of their camera and be comfortable with controlling the shutter speed, aperture and ISO controls. It is not required that you shoot with a Leica, though we will have a selection of the latest camera available for you to use through-out the weekend.
We will officially begin at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday October 2nd and conclude with the departure from the Inn at 12 noon on Wednesday October 5th.
Each day will include both opportunities to shoot at recommended or prearranged locations or to explore the island on your own. At midday we will gather as a group for a technical lecture and review of the morning shoot. This program will blend photography with extraordinarily good food. Our opening night dinner will include a chef-run, farm to table, dining experience and our closing night will include a world renowned gourmet meal at the Langley Inn.
