To M9 Owners
To M9 owners - from Leica:
For those of you who are owners of Leica M9s and ME220s, there is some important news from Leica about sensor replacements. The CCD sensor in these cameras is no longer being manufactured and Leica’s stock of replacement sensors has been exhausted. If an M9 sensor fails due to corrosion or other cause, Leica cannot replace it. They are offering instead an upgrade program that allows the owner to receive an allowance to upgrade to a new type of camera. The M9 cameras remain repairable by Leica in all other respects; it is only sensor replacement that is no longer possible. If your camera has a defective sensor, the upgrades possible are in the chart below.
If you have an M9 with a defective sensor, you can send it directly to Leica customer care or do this via a dealer or Leica store. Leica’s statement on this is below:
With an extensive range of services Leica Customer Care always aims to offer individual, customer oriented solutions. This applies to the complete current Leica product portfolio as well as to previous models and historical cameras, it is always our goal to sustain our repair capacity for as long as possible. In case of the M CCD sensors we stored the largest possible amounts for a long period of time. Manufacturing of the CCD has now been discontinued and the needed production equipment was disassembled, subsequent deliveries are therefore no longer possible.
For this reason, we now offer an attractive upgrade program that covers or even exceeds the current value of a functioning M9. This means that we can ensure that the M9 will retain its value over the long term.
