AT THE SALES COUNTER: NYC 1983-1994

The Leica rested on the cushioned counter mat and was being inspected by the customer. The shop owner was handling the sale in a masterful manner. I was busy with another customer but did notice the Leica as I strode by. An M2-R, new in the box, with all of the appropriate papers. Just another M2-R until I looked at the serial number. The number was 1250200...the last M2-R produced. The sale was finalized. The customer delighted. Neither the shop owner or the proud new owner recognized the significance. The last one made.
