Edward Keating has lived and worked as a photographer in New York City since 1981. Like previous generations of street photographers, he taught himself how to photograph by chronicling street life of everyday New Yorkers. Within ten years later he was hired as a Staff Photographer at The New York Times where he covered national and international news and was a regular contributor to the Sunday New York Times Magazine.
In 2002, Keating was awarded the Pulitzer Prize as part of the New York Times team covering the attacks of 9/11. In 2008, Keating exhibited his collection “New York” alongside Robert Frank’s work at The Pingyao International Photography Festival in Pingyao, China. His collection of work on Route 66 was featured at Bursa Fotofest in Bursa, Turkey, in 2011.
Keating’s work resides in the permanent collections of The Museum of Modern Art in NewYork City and The Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach, Florida. Hisone-person exhibitions include; The Camera Club of New York, The Leica Gallery-New York and at Visa Pour l’ image, the international photojournalism festival held annually in Perpignan, France.
In 2019 his book, “MAIN STRƎƎT: The Lost Dream of Route 66" was published by Damiani, a project he started in 2000 with a 22 photo photo-essay shot for The New York Times Magazine. Keating is married to photo editor/photographer, Carrie Boretz. They have two daughters Caitlin and Emily. Contact Press Images in New York City has represented Keating since 1998.
Constantine Manos, an LHSA member, was born in Columbia, South Carolina, U.S.A., of Greek immigrant parents. His photographic career began in the school camera club at the age of thirteen, and within several years he was a working professional. He graduated from the University of South Carolina with a B.A. in English Literature. At the age of eighteen he discovered Henri Cartier-Bresson and the Leica camera, with which he made his first serious pictures. At the age of nineteen he was appointed official photographer of the Boston Symphony Orchestra at its summer festival at Tanglewood, where he spent three seasons.
Upon completion of his compulsory military service, he moved to New York - where he worked for Esquire, Life, and Look. Manos’ book Portrait of a Symphony, a documentary of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, was published in 1961. In 1963 Manos joined Magnum Photos, the international picture agency. Upon his return from Greece in 1964, he settled in Boston. In 2008 he moved to Cape Cod.
Manos' photographs are in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; the Art Institute of Chicago; the Bibliothéque Nationale, Paris; George Eastman House, Rochester, NY; the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and the Benaki Museum, Athens. In2003 Manos was awarded the Leica Medal of Excellence for his American color photographs, which appeared in two books – American Color in 1995 and American Color 2 in2010.
Sean Reid has been a commercial and fine art photographer for thirty-five years. He writes about cameras, lenses and photography for www.reidreviews.com, a subscription based site that accepts no advertising. Sean has also worked as an unpaid tester and advisor to various camera and lens companies including Leica. Sean studied photography at Bard College under Stephen Shore and Ben Lifson and later worked as an exhibition printer. In 1989, he was the first American photographer to receive an artist-in-residence grant from the Irish Arts Council and his work is held in their collection. In the 1990s, his pictures were exhibited in New York in conjunction with performances by Jens Nygaard's Jupiter Symphony. His editorial work has appeared in magazines such as Motorcyclist, Rider and The Robb Report.
Antonio Di Benedetto is a Product Specialist for Leica Camera USA. He has extensive experience in the photo industry, both from the consumer and trade perspective. Equally passionate about the art of photography as he is for photographic equipment, Antonio is highly skilled at pairing a photographer’s vision with the perfect creative tools, offering new techniques and insights along the way.
Bill Royce, an LHSA member, is a former Air Force fighter pilot and retired Boeing test pilot, and lifelong photographer. He primarily concentrates on street photography and scenic work. Numerous images of his have been published in several magazines. He currently teaches post-processing in Lightroom and Silver Efex Pro II, and also teaches an introduction to street photography. He is an Adobe-Certified Expert in Lightroom and is a board member of the Leica Society International.
